Helping Hand From Sentinel Forestry Crew
Thanks to Holly H and Rhys T of the BC Wildfire Sentinel Sentinel crew for their help with some trail maintenance work this spring. This is a picture of the crew on the Peter Roulston Trail on May 8. They did some brushing, built up x-country ski swale crossings and began repairs on an old log bridge at the east end of the trail. The crew spent part of another couple of days earlier doing crossing and footbridge repairs on the Nakusp Hot Springs trail. Hopefully they will have a chance to return later in the season to finish up!
Hot Springs Km 6 Footbridge Repair
Brian W and Bob T took a hike up the Nakusp Hot Springs trail on May 22 to repair a rotted and unsafe footbridge at Km 6. This footbridge will be replaced with a new cedar timber bridge this fall. It was also an opportunity to try out our new Stihl MSA220 battery chainsaw, which worked fine.
Cedar Grove Access Closure
The Kuskanax FSR which provides access to the Cedar Grove Trail will be closed to all foot and vehicle traffic until further notice. The caribou calving pen below the road north of the CMH heliport is now occupied with pregnant caribou females who are very sensitive to noise or other disruptions. We thank you for your cooperation.
