Kimbol Lake Connector Survey 2 Sept 28.24
Frances Swan and a friend used Bob & Jamie’s GPS track from a previous reconnaissance of the connector trail along the east side of Kimbol Lake to better map the route and identify windfalls and trail hazards. Frances came back with good recommendations for a trail clearing and improvement project for next year.
Peter Raulston windfall clearing Nov 10.24
Jerry Van Immerzeel spent a few hours on Sunday clearing the Peter Raulston trail of windfall and getting it ready for skiing and snowshoeing. The old log crossing near the east Trailhead needs work or replacement.
New Rail Trail Kiosk & Warning sign below Summit L.
Jamie D and BobT dug post holes and erected a new kiosk on the Nakusp to Summit Lake Rail Trail at the RDCK Area K/H boundary. A pullout/parking area is available on the opposite shoulder of Highway 6 for those who join or leave the trail here. A new warning sign alerts trail users to the risk of encountering a dangerous dog whee the trail crosses the Fox Farm between the kiosk and Island View Road at Summit Lake. The sign identifies bypass routes for those who may wish to avoid the farm.
Clearing Hot Springs Windfall Oct 22.24
Frank K and Bob T spent most of the day clearing windfall on the upper 5 km of the Hot Springs Trail and finished installing the galvanized traction mesh at the mid-point crossings. It was a beautiful fall day to be on the trail working.
Hot Springs Timber Crossing Oct 17.24
Brian W, Jamie D, Frank K and Bob T spent a long day building a new Hot Springs Trail timber frame bridge on the lower half of the trail, replacing and old rotted log crossing. The components were expertly placed on a narrow cliff edge at the construction site by Mark H a couple weeks prior, with Brian talking him in. Frank and Bob focused on a difficult footer excavation dig while Brian and Jamie did most of the building. Another great job!
Hot Springs Trail mesh Day 2 Oct 13.24
Corinne T and Bob T spent most of the day installing another 200 foot roll of 4” wide galvanized mesh on the Hot Springs Trail crossings. A few crossing in the middle of the trail between the trailhead will be completed on a later date. Bob hand cleared an impassable, snarled blowdown of branches and a tree top as part of the days adventure.

Jamie D and Bob T started the installation of galvanized metal mesh on the log treads of crossings on the Hot Springs trail. The mesh strips were applied at a walking pace distance from each other. Many of the gully crossings and boardwalks on the trail are very slippery when wet. The alternatinig mesh strips will provide hikers with better footing.
