Michele N and Bob T walked the rail trail from Hilltop in Upper Nakusp down to the Nakusp Waterfront via the lookout, Government Hill, the bypass, Esso, and the Kuskanax estuary on Sunday Jan 12 to check out True North’s Active Transportation Plan recommended improvements. They supported all and provided additional suggestions for improving access and user experience.

Kimbol Lake Snowshoe Recon Jan 7.2025

Jamie D, Frank K and Bob T snowshoed 2.6 km from the Nakusp Hot Springs parking lot to the second creek on the Kimbol Lake Trail on Jan 7 to check out snow conditions, obstructions, and skill level required. Only minor brushing was required with a few larger falls to clear in spring when the snow clears. The trail was hard to follow in places due to poor marking.

Jackrabbit Group Hike Jan 5.2025

14 optimistic snowshoers braved poor snow conditions, left their snowshoes behind, and hiked to Taddy Cabin from the Wensley Creek parking lot. Frank K went ahead to start a fire in the cabin and had it toasty warm for the group’s arrival where they had lunch and hot beverages. The day was warm, sunny and a good time was had by all.

Box Lake Nature Trail Clearing Dec 30.24

Michele Nelson and Bob T cleared numerous falls along the Box Lake Nature trail, including some more complex bigger falls. They took their time and carefully assessed each fall before clearing. Safely accomplished with no surprises. Good work team (if I do say so myself)

Jackrabbit Recon & Clearing Dec 27.24

Frank K and Bob T hiked the Jackrabbit Trail to do a recon and hand clearing in preparation for a group snowshoe on Jan 5. The trail was in good shape with only smaller trees requiring removal.

Peter Roulston Group Snowshoe Recon Dec 12.24

Frank K & Bob T snowshoed toward Gardner Creek from the upper, east Peter Roulston trailhead on Dec 12 to check for falls and snow conditions for the ground snowshoe planned for Dec 22. Jerry V left the trail in good shape after his fall clearing and brushing, so they decided that any additional clearing could be done during the group snowshoe with the electric chainsaw.
