Cedar Grove Snowshoe Sunday Feb 16
Six NACTS members (or soon to be), Veronika, Rob, Carrie, Leah, Bob & Michele and 3 dogs (sorry - don’t remember their names but they were friendly with huge energy) tackled the 5+ km oneway snowshoe from the Nakusp Hot Springs parking lot, up the steep climb around the caribou pen and then along the Kuskanax FSR and branch roads to the Cedar Grove trailhead. It was a perfect day for the outing with fresh snow to add to the challenge and beauty. The first few hundred meters of climbing warmed us up with the next 4 km to the Cedar Grove turnoff an easy tramp on well packed snow. The last km got harder, and then a lot harder as we broke trail in deep, heavy snow. The lunch stop at Cedar Grove was well earned. The way back was easier, but everyone was worn out by the time we returned to the parking lot. We were in and out in 4 hours, a good effort!
Group Snowshoe Kimbol Lake Trail Jan 19
The three snowshoe Musketeers Jamie D, Frank K and Bob T had a great outing from the Hot Springs Parking lot to the second creek gulley and bridge up the Kimbol Lake Trail, about 2.8 km oneway. It was another beautiful day with some fresh snow on the trail. The steep climb out of the Hot Springs source was icy, rocky and treacherous, but everyone made it without mishap or injury.
Summit Bonanza Rail Trail Snowshoe Feb 2
A small group of 6 dedicated snowshoers braved a beautiful day on an easy, flat railtrail for a pleasant 3.8 km one-way 7.6 km return outing along Bonanza creek on Sunday, Feb 2. The views of the creek, mountains, forest and beaver dams along the way were stunning.
